The Children of House of Imported Hearts

We hope this window into the lives of orphaned children will give you a better understanding of the project and our efforts to raise money to support their education and future.  “Now I’m in 1st grade of elementary school in Yogyakarta, Indonesia,” Andre writes. “I came from Surabaya on December 2011. I have 2 little sisters, they’re living with my mom. My dad passed away long time ago. So because my family is poor, my mom took me to my grandfather’s home and left me there. My grandfather is a pedicab driver but soon he got sick and lost his job. He can’t take care of me anymore. But I’m so lucky and I’m so happy now I can live in Yogyakarta, and going to school. When I grow up, I wanna own a lot of big buses and big trucks, so I can make my own business.”

“Hello, my name is Prasetyo. I’m 5 years old. Now I’m schooling in kindergarten. I came from Surabaya (a prostitution area) in Tambak Asri. I don’t know anything about my real father, and my mom is working in a small warung (restaurant). I love her but she’s too busy working to buy me and my other family food. I have a lot of family members. Everyday I like to play with my friends here, in the orphanage. I like my new school. I also like listening to songs, to sing and dancing. When I grow up, I want to be a police man. I want to have guns and catching bad guys and put them into jail.”

Continuing with our week-long profiles of the children of House of Imported Hearts, today we meet Kristin, step-sister to Prasetyo, who was featured yesterday. Kristin wants to be a doctor some day.

“Hello, I’m Kristin. I am Prasetyo’s step-sister. I am 7 years old and now I already in 1st grade elementary school. I also came from Surabaya. I’m very happy that I can go to school, eat a lot, because I love eating. I was skinny and bald when I came for the first time to this orphanage, but now I’m fat. I’m studying a lot now, because I want to be a doctor when I grow up.”
